Lost and Found
If your child is missing an article of clothing, come into the office during Open House. We have a large box of unlabelled clothes. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity.

School Closings
Big Chief will be closed on Monday, May 31st for Memorial Day. The last day of school is Tuesday, June 15th.
Kindergarten Graduation
Graduation for Kindergarten children will be held on Wednesday, June 9th at 6:00 pm children arrive. 6:15 pm graduation starts. Further information to follow.
Nursery School Registration
Classes are closing for September 2010-2011. If you have not yet registered your child, the time to do so is now!
Camp Registration (6 wks. - 13 yrs.)
Summer is almost here and camp registration, particularly for the Midi-day program is almost closed! If you need any information, or would like another registration form, please call the office at 781-3900.
PROGRAM:
MISS AMANDA'S CLASS:
Theme: Continue working on the farm, learning about different animals, growing string beans, birds, Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Language Arts: Reading books, such as "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," "The Carrot Seed," "I Love You Daddy," "The Grouchy Ladybug," "It's Spring", "Are You My Mother?."
Science: Learning about birds and Farm animals. Planting seeds and watching them grow. Looking for birds and bird nests.
Art: Sponge painting. Mother's Day and Father's Day projects. Farm animals.
Physical: Going outside to ride the tricycles and catch bubbles and play ball. Running in the field, kicking the large and small balls. Crawling through the tunnel.
Music: Dancing, creative movement and using musical instruments.
MISS ELIZABETH'S CLASS:
Theme: Continue with Spring plants, flowers, caterpillars, butterflies, Mother's Day and Father's Day and Summer.
Social and Independent Skills: Learning to take turns as we play with our friends, using more words to express ourselves. Learning to cover oiur mouth when we cough. Rubbing our hands together as we wash them with soap under warm water. Trying to wipe our noses, unzipper our jackets and put our jackets in our cubbies.
Language Arts: Reading stories, such as "The Red Ripe Strawberry and The Hungry Bear", "The Little Engine That Could", "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "Are You My Mother?", "I Love You Daddy" and "Spot Goes to the Beach".
Art: Exploring creative art as we fingerpaint, sponge paint and easel paint. Making a collage of my own. Making Mother's Day and Father's Day surprises.
Science: Planting a seed and watching it grow.
Music: Dancing to favorite songs we have been dancing to all year long.
Physical: Outdoor play to strengthen our large motor skills and learning to blow bubbles. Strengthening our small motor skills with playdough and lacing.
MISS LIZ'S CLASS:
Theme: Continue Spring, Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Language Arts: "Over in the Garden," "The Carrot Seed," "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "What Moms Can't Do", "I Love My Daddy Because . . .", and "The Grouchy Ladybug". "The Tiny Seed".
Art: Spring mural, Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts, easel painting outdoors and Spring Collage.
Physical: Outdoor play as often as possible. Running races in the field, throwing and kicking balls, outdoor water play, blowing bubbles, parachute play, and continue cutting with scissors.
Science: Planting seeds and caring for the seedlings; going for nature walks, looking for caterpillars, butterflies, and ants; going on a bug hunt.
Math: Counting seeds as we plant them, using blocks for counting and measuring.
MISS DAISY'S CLASS:
Theme: Continue Spring, insects, planting, Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Language Arts: "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "The Grouchy Ladybug", "The Carrot Seed", "Grandpa's Garden Lunch", "Ten Little Ladybugs", "On Mother's Lap", "The Ten Best Things About My Dad", and "Jack and the Beanstalk".
Art: Spring Mural, butterfly and insect projects, easel, sponge and fly swatter painting, "worm art" - art with spaghetti; making caterpillars and ladybugs; Mother's Day and Father's Day projects.
Math: Buggy Bingo, Butterfly and Flower match-up. Counting our seeds as we plant them and counting our seedlings as they grow. Measuring yarn worms to see which is small, medium or large.
Fingerplays: "I'm a Little Flower Seed", "Five Pretty Flowers", "Lady Bug, Lady Bug" and "Five Little Ladybugs". "5 Little Robbins".
Science: We will be going on nature walks to observe the changes that are occurring all around us. We will look at trees, grass and plants. We will search for worms, ants, caterpillars and other insects and observe them in our bug finders and then release them. We will try to catch butterflies with our nets and then release them.
Flannel Board: "The Little Red Hen", "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "Five Little Robins" and Butterfly flannel board game.
Music: Creative Movement - dancing around like flowers in the wind. Fun with
instruments. Pretending we are caterpillars turning into beautiful butterflies.
Nursery Rhymes: "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary," "In a Garden" and "Little Miss Muffet".
Cooking: Preparing a yummy garden salad and making mud cups with pudding and gummy worms. Making a caterpillar snack. Lady bugs snacks (Spread red jam on round crackers and top with raisin "spots").
Physical: We will enhance out large motor skills for outdoor play, climbing, kicking and throwing a ball. Parachute play and bicycles. Bugs charade - let our friends guess which bug we are imitating.
MISS CHRIS AND MISS ELLIE'S CLASS:
Wishing you a very Happy Mother's and Father's Day. Please remember to make sure your child is wearing sneakers, it is much safer for when we go on the playground.
Theme: Continuation of Farm Produce, Mother's Day, planting and Father's Day.
Art: Creating the crops that farmers grow on the farms and displaying the children's work on our bulletin boards. Making a special Mother's Day card and gift. Creating a special Father's Day gift and card. Practicing cutting skills.
Block Area: Designing farms where farmers work using the cars and tractors and "free play" when the children use their own imaginations to build.
Housekeeping: Encouraging an atmosphere where the children will go to the farm stand or grocery store to buy the fruits and vegetables that the farmers grow for us. Encouraging the children to pretend to plant in rows.
Cooking: Yummy!! Using the fruits and vegetables farmer produce to cook or bake in our classrooms. For example: Making potato salad with potatoes that are grown from the ground. Baking apple cake with apples that are grown from trees - Don't worry, all recipes will follow.
Science: Dirt is alive. Discussing what soil is made of and why it is important. Continuation of weather chart. Planting seeds and observing them as they grow. FYI: A great book for experiments..."Dirt: The Scoop on Soil."
Music and Movement: Singing fingerplays such as "The Carrot Patch", "The Carrot Song", "The Apple Tree". Dancing to our favorites like "Popcorn". "The Freeze" and "Buzz, Buzz, Buzz". The children have been enjoying "Musical Chairs" and "We Are the Dinosaurs".
Language Arts: Reading aloud, dictations and encouraging the children to help the teachers read. Continuation of reading books that are related to farmers, tractors and farm produce. Stories that we are reading that are related to plating are, "From Seed to Plant". "The Tiny Seed". "One Little Seed". "How a Plant Grows" and "Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee Do You Know Me?" Also sharing "Mother's Day, "My Mother is Mine". "A Present for Mom". "Father's Day". "Happy Father's Day" and "A Father's Day Thank You". The children love to be read to: It is such a special part of the day!
PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM:
MISS LOIS AND MISS RENEE'S CLASS:
Theme: Mother's Day, Father's Day, planting and insects including butterflies, ants, spiders, bees, and earthworms.
Science: Observing new changes outside. Signs of Spring, sounds, weather changes and observing our bird houses for new life. We will be going on insect hunts and exploring their activities and habitats. Preparing our outdoor Big Chief Garden for planting. Experimenting with seeds (water, soil, sunlight). What happens when seeds are lacking these elements? Insect classification. Life cycle of the butterfly. Exploring Ant colonies.
Art: We will be taking our easels outside to foster Spring creativity. Making butterflies. Mother's Day and Father's Day surprises and other special projects. Chalk and water painting will also be done outside. Insect mural.
Housekeeping Area: Taking our water table outside for play. Reinforcing and working on shoe-tying, zippering, buttoning, snapping, etc. Also reinforcing addresses and phone numbers. Making special snacks - ants on a log, cooking spiderling cupcakes and caterpillars. We will practice name recognition & writing.
Block Area: Creative block play. Creating ant colonies out of blocks. Building chrysalises and re-enacting the process of metamorphosis.
Language Arts: Books relating to themes. Making story boards and story dictation. (The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Carrot Seed, The Very Busy Spider, The Ants Go Marching, etc.). Acting out plays - The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where Does the Butterfly Go When it Rains, The Tiny Seed.
Pre-Reading: Our focus for the remaining weeks will be continuing letter recognition and letter formation.
Physical: We will be concentrating on large motor skills. Playing T-Ball, soccer, & basketball. Parachute play, games & races outside.
KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM:

Theme: Insects, Planting, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Eric Carle Month, Curious George books and Graduation.
Language Arts: Introduce initial sounds of O,X and Z. Reinforce & review all the letters.

Science: Planting-How does a seed grow into a plant, a tree? Learn the parts of a flower.
Grow lima bean plants in our room.

Social Studies: Important Holidays and Events in May and June: May Day, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Kindergarten Graduation, Flag Day and Father's Day.
Math: Explore numbers 13 - 26 using addition and subtraction. This is done using the "hands on" method and by playing games, and the computer.
Art: Gifts for Mom and Dad, Graduation flowers and Insects.
Music: Graduation Songs and dances. Outdoor play.
